Meet your guide on the journey to healing
Discover the person behind A Burden Shared Psychotherapy, their path to becoming a psychotherapist, and the passion that drives their commitment to your well-being.

My journey to psychotherapy
Long before becoming a Registered Psychotherapist, my passion for social justice led me to work as an Employment Counselor in a grassroots community-based organization. My feminist leanings led to a long career as a Registered Midwife, during which I strove to empower women and their families to make their own best choices during pregnancy, while giving birth and in the postpartum period. This career took me to small and remote Indigenous communities in northern Canada, where I learned the importance of cultural wisdom. Soon after retiring from Midwifery and returning to my hometown of Tobermory, I felt called to this new and incredibly rewarding career as a Psychotherapist. I am an open-hearted and nonjudgmental person who celebrates and enjoys the full spectrum of human diversity.

My unique approach to healing
The most important part of my work as a therapist is the establishment of a strong and trusting relationship where clients feel my genuine presence with them as they heal from trauma, learn to hear their own inner voice and journey towards their most authentic way of being in the world. My primary theoretical approach is Person-Centred (Humanistic) therapy, emphasizing empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. I also integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness and other modalities according to your needs and preferences. I come to the therapeutic relationship from a feminist and anti-oppressive stance that is trauma-informed, culturally humble and open to the full spectrum of human diversity.

Who I love helping
Anyone who is struggling in any way is likely to benefit from sharing their burden with an empathetic and nonjudgmental listener such as myself. Whether grief, anxiety, depression, anger, addictions, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, identity issues, issues of neurodiversity, struggles with aging or failing health, loneliness or feeling numb, I am here to listen and to offer support and encouragement that will help you to create a better life for yourself and those you love and care about.
"Finding a therapist who genuinely listens and understands has been transformative. A Burden Shared Psychotherapy provided the support I needed to truly heal and grow."
