My therapeutic approach and how I can help

At A Burden Shared Psychotherapy, I offer a range of services designed to support your journey toward healing and growth. Explore the challenges I address and the methods I use to help you navigate life's complexities.

Challenges we address

My clients present with a wide range of concerns, and I am here to support you through various challenges. I provide a safe and understanding space to explore and work through difficult experiences.

Grief and loss

Navigating the complex emotions associated with loss and bereavement.

Anxiety and depression

Developing strategies to manage overwhelming feelings and improve emotional well-being.

Relationship concerns

Improving communication, fostering connection, and addressing interpersonal challenges.

Additional areas of support

I also support individuals dealing with complex post-traumatic stress disorder, neurodiversity, and gender identity issues, providing specialized and compassionate care tailored to your unique needs.

Person-centred therapy (PCT)

PCT is a non-directive, humanistic approach that works by providing a safe, supportive, judgment-free space where you guide your own healing and self-discovery at your own pace. This approach recognizes your inherent capacity for growth and self-actualization.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)

CBT helps people manage mental and physical health concerns by identifying and changing harmful thought patterns. By understanding how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected, you can develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)

DBT is effective for the regulation of intense emotions by balancing acceptance and change while increasing skills in mindfulness and distress tolerance. It provides practical tools for managing difficult feelings and improving interpersonal relationships.

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)

ACT increases psychological flexibility by enabling clients to accept, rather than avoid, difficult emotions. Allowing uncomfortable thoughts and feelings to exist without judgment helps individuals define what matters most to them and take steps towards their personal goals.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness, the practice of being fully present, offers many benefits, including reduced anxiety, stress, and depression, better emotional regulation, increased ability to focus, and improved sleep. It helps you connect with the present moment.

My foundational principles

I am committed to a client-centred and trauma-informed approach, ensuring that your therapy experience is personalized, respectful, and effective. These principles guide every aspect of my practice.

Client-centred approach

Being client-centred recognizes that there is no "one size fits all" in psychotherapy. Every individual presents with a unique personality that has been formed by diverse influences and experiences. Your therapy journey is uniquely yours, guided by your pace and needs.

Trauma-informed care

Bringing awareness to a history of, or current experience of, trauma is important because developing a deep understanding of the effects of trauma is key to enabling recovery, change, and growth. Your safety and emotional well-being are my priority.
